KARAN ALETTY, MD

Chief Resident

Karan was born and raised in the Bay Area. He went to Centre College in Danville, Kentucky after reading about it in a book. He received his B.S. in Chemistry in 2017 and got to experience studying abroad in France and New Zealand as well as taking glass blowing lessons. He received his M.D. in 2021 from University of Louisville School of Medicine in Louisville, Kentucky.

After his stay in Kentucky, he was fortunate to come back to the Bay Area for residency at SCVMC. At work, Karan learned he had an interest for teaching and can be found doing bedside talks with interns and medical students. He hopes to be a teaching hospitalist where he can continue to work with medical learners. He is excited to be one of the chief residents next year and hopes to help continue to improve the residency.

Outside of medicine, Karan can be found making ice cream, trying out new coffee shops, running, and spending time with friends and family.

KEITH UYENO, DO

Chief Resident

Keith was born and raised in Southern California. He didn’t go far for undergrad, attending the University of California, Irvine where he earned his B.S. in Biological Sciences in 2014. He spent his gap years training as an EMT, working as a medical scribe and volunteering at a local hospital and with a hospice agency. He received his D.O. in 2021 from the Western University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine in Pomona, California.

He finally left So Cal for residency and the rest is history. His three years at SCVMC have cemented his desire to work with learners, an interest that was sparked while teaching anatomy and clinical skills during medical school. Ultimately, Keith aspires to be a teaching hospitalist where he can continue to work in a collaborative environment and help train residents and medical students. He is excited to be one of the chief residents next year and hopes to continue the high standards set before him (although he knows he has big shoes to fill).

Outside of the hospital, Keith enjoys splurging on fancy dinners with his fiance, binge watching new shows, reading, and playing with his crazy corgi, Panko.

GURJIT MUNDH, MD Profile Photo

GURJIT MUNDH, DO

Chief Resident

Gurjit is a San Jose native and first-generation doctor who is passionate about health equity, providing care to underserved populations, and improving healthcare policy. She graduated from UC Berkeley in 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts in Ethnic Studies and Molecular and Cell Biology. At Berkeley, she was a literacy tutor with BUILD in Oakland and was involved in providing care to unhoused individuals with the Suitcase Clinic, which initiated her love for medicine. During her gap years, she completed a post-bac program, worked as a scribe, and served as a health policy intern. Gurjit completed medical school at ATSU-SOMA in 2022, where she spent 3 out of the 4 years training at community health centers throughout the Central Valley.

She was elated to come back to her hometown for residency. During her time at SCVMC, Gurjit cemented her desire to teach learners and focus on high quality care. She enjoys bedside teaching with medical students and interns and is very excited to continue teaching as a chief. She hopes to continue to work alongside learners as a teaching hospitalist and incorporate her passion for healthcare policy into her career. In her free time, Gurjit likes to explore California beaches, try new coffee shops, binge watch TV, and spend quality time with her friends and family.

LEAH UTO, MD

Chief Resident

Leah was born and raised in Salinas, Ca where she spent her younger years surrounded by agriculture. Later she attended UC Davis where she explored whether she wanted to pursue medicine or become a strawberry farmer like her father, ultimately earning her B.S. in biology. She then went down the road to California Northstate University where she earned her M.D. in Elk Grove, Ca.

Further cementing her love for NorCal, she matched at Valley after having such a positive experience here as a sub-I -- she knew it was exactly the type of program she wanted to train at. During her time at Valley, she has treasured the camaraderie that she has built with co-residents and attendings alike. She hopes to foster this same environment during chief year for the classes to come. Her goal is to be a teaching attending in the Bay Area to continue working with trainees one day.

Outside of the hospital, Leah’s favorite things to do are spend time with family and friends, hike by the beach, read, go to happy hour with co-residents, and go thrifting!
