WHAT IS A PULMONARY FUNCTION TEST?
Pulmonary function tests (PFT’s) are breathing tests to find out how well you move air in and out of your lungs and how well oxygen enters your body.

HOW DO I PREPARE FOR THE PULMONARY FUNCTION TEST?
To get the most accurate results from your breathing tests:
1. Do not smoke for at least 1 hour before the test.
2. Do not drink alcohol for at least 4 hours before the test.
3. Do not exercise heavily for at least 30 minutes before the test.
Do not wear tight clothing that makes it difficult for you to take a deep breath. Wear comfortable clothing. It may get cold in the testing room.
4. Do not eat a large meal within 2 hours before the test.
5. Do not drink caffeinated drinks (Coffee, cola, and tea) or smoke cigarettes for at least 12 hours before the test.
6. Do not use inhalers or breathing treatments for at least 2-3 hours before the test. You will be given a breathing treatment as part of the study.
7. You can take your other prescribed medications.
