We provide comprehensive care to patients with Spinal Cord injury, Traumatic Brain Injury. In General Rehabilitation, taking care of patients with Stroke, Amputee, Post-Polio, Multiple Sclerosis. In Physical Medicine Clinic, taking care of patients with Spasticity, Tendon Transfer, and Musculoskeletal disorders.

To provide a comprehensive approach to diagnosis and treatment of physical disabilities, both progressive and non-progressive

To develop a plan of treatment, including therapies, social, psychological, vocational, and educational, recreations, and supportive services.

To promote an environmental, social and physically barrier-free atmosphere for the complete re-integration of the disabled person into the community.

1. Rehabilitation Clinics

Spinal Cord Injury, Traumatic Brain Injury, General Rehabilitation, Stroke, Amputee, Post-Polio, Multiple Sclerosis, Physical Medicine, Women with Disability, Spasticity, Tendon Transfer, and musculoskeletal disorders.

  • General goals
    • Evaluation and assessment of physically disabled patients with particular attention to self-care, mobility, psychological health, pain, therapies and prevention.
    • Physical examination including neuro-muscular and loco-motor systems, muscle strength and range of joint motion
    • Establishment of goals – short & long term
    • Maintenance of treatment
    • Re-evaluation and assessment of treatment, goals achieved and program
  • Procedures commonly done in outpatient clinic
    • Debridement of (minor) decubiti
    • Injection – tendon sheath, ligament, or trigger point
    • Nerve block (peripheral)
    • Motor point blocks with botulinum toxin and phenol
    • Suprapubic aspiration for bladder urine for culture and sensitivity
    • Refills of implanted intrathecal baclofen pumps
    • Tracheostomy changes
    • Electrodiagnosis
  • Procedures Not allowed:
    • Surgical procedures other than minor debridement.
    • Injections into inflamed joints or in cases where a diagnosis has not been established

CVA, Guillian Barré, neuropathies, cerebral palsy.

MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS

AMPUTEE

Multidisciplinary clinic (physiatrists, prosthetists)

POST POLIO

Addresses bracing and mobility issues, functional abilities, pain, fatigue, respiratory and psychological needs.

HEAD INJURY

Emphasis on behavioral issues, seizure control, headaches & dizziness, in addition to the rehabilitation of physical, cognitive and psychological problems.  

Treats both major traumatic brain injury and minor head injury.

NIDRR-funded Traumatic Brain Injury Model System of Care

PHYSICAL MEDICINE

Rehabilitation of back, neck, shoulder, and other joint problems, neuropathies, nerve entrapments, and tendinitis/bursitis.

ELECTRODIAGNOSTIC LAB

Evaluation of radiculopathies, neuropathies, nerve entrapment syndromes, myopathies and plexopathies.

Detailed report follows examination.

SPINAL CORD INJURY / DISORDERS

Rehabilitation and ongoing care of all spinal cord injuries.  

Specializes in the care of high tetraplegia/ventilator dependent patients.

SPASTICITY CLINIC

Multidisciplinary clinic for patients with severe spasticity affecting their comfort or function.    (MD, PT, OT)

WOMEN WITH DISABILITY CLINIC

Addresses the needs of women whose disability interferes with their ability to comfortably receive basic female care.

PEDIATRIC REHABILITATION

CCS-certified spina bifida clinic

Pediatric patients with neurological disorders such as SCI, TBI, spina bifida, CP, spasticity, and muscular dystrophy.

WOUND CLINIC

Patients with pressure sores are seen together by physiatrist(s) and wound therapists in the Therapy Wound Clinic to facilitate management and coordination of care of patients with difficult to heal wounds.

TELEMEDICINE CLINIC

Patients who live remotely and/or have difficulties coming to the PM&R clinic in person may have an option of receiving care via telemedicine (iPad Facetime).
