SPARK CLINIC: SUPPORTING PROTECTING AND RESPECTING KIDS
Center for Child Protection
The Center for Child Protection provides expert medical evaluations for children and youth who may have been physically or sexually abused, or who may have suffered medical neglect. Some of our patients are in foster care at the time of their evaluation; most are living with their biological families.
Services: Child Abuse Evaluations
This program is separate from the SPARK Clinic, but is co-located at Valley Health Center—Downtown.
We accept referrals from DFCS (Social Services), Law Enforcement Agencies across Santa Clara County, medical providers across our community, and concerned parents and families. Here is more information about Center for Child Protection programs.
Child Sexual Abuse Evaluations: Pediatric Sexual Abuse Response Team (SART)
We provide expert and thorough evaluations for children and youth who may have been sexually abused: days, months, or years before the examination. The Pediatric SART Exam is trauma-informed and does not include an internal (vaginal) examination. The SART exam may include photography for forensic purposes, with the consent of the patient or the patient’s family. We also provide referrals for advocacy and counseling.
Please contact Pediatric SART at (408) 885-6460.
For youth 12 years and older, depending on the amount of time since the last sexual contact, we may refer you to the Adult and Adolescent SART program at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center.
Child Physical Abuse and Neglect Evaluations
We provide expert and thorough evaluations for children and youth who may have been physically abused, or who may have experienced medical neglect. Child physical abuse evaluations include a complete medical history and examination, and review of imaging and laboratory testing, as appropriate. The child physical abuse evaluation may include photography for forensic purposes, with the consent of the patient or the patient’s family.
