Clinical Trials

What is a clinical trial?

When a company or organization wishes to investigate a new medication or procedure, it must conduct extensive research to determine the safety and effectiveness of the medication or procedure. This research typically involves years of testing in laboratories and later, once the relative safety has been determined, in humans.

These tests are known as "clinical trials". For more information about what a clinical trial is and how to find out about them, visit the ClinicalTrials.gov website. Currently, in the Division of Urology, we are conducting the following clinical trials:

The SELECT trial is being conducted to determine if taking selenium and/or vitamin E supplements can prevent prostate cancer. If you are interested in participating, please call us at (408) 793-6773
