INTERNAL MEDICINE RESIDENCY
SALARY & BENEFITS
Extremely competitive salary and benefits are provided to interns and residents at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center as a result of the collective bargaining agreement between the Committee of Interns and Residents (National Affiliate of Service Employees International Union - SEIU) and the County of Santa Clara.
SALARY AND BENEFITS FOR 2024-2025 YEAR ARE:
- PGY1 = $77,334.40, PGY2 = $82,578.08, PGY3 = $89,294.40
SALARY AND BENEFITS FOR 2025-2026 YEAR ARE:
- PGY1 = $80,427.36, PGY2 = $85,881.12, PGY3 = $92,865.76
SALARY AND BENEFITS FOR 2026-2027 YEAR ARE:
- PGY1 = $83,643.04, PGY2 = $89,315.20, PGY3 = $96,578.56
IN ADDITION:
- $250 dollars per day of orientation
- Annual paid vacation of 3 weeks for all interns and residents
- Addition 1 week of Personal Time Off for PGY2 and higher
- Up to 5 days of educational leave for scholarly travel
- Interns and Residents shall be entitled to use up to twenty (20) days of sick leave per year
- All interns receive reimbursement for the USMLE/COMLEX Step 3
- 100% coverage of State mandated medical licenses
- The County contributes 7.5% of an employee’s gross base salary towards a Deferred Compensation Plan
- Each resident receives an educational stipend ($1000 for PGY1, $1,800 for PGY2 and PGY3) for educational expenses (e.g. books, conferences, travel to present research, etc.)
- Interns and residents will receive an additional day's pay for a holiday worked (thirteen recognized county holidays)
- Interns and residents will receive an annual $1400 meal stipend for the purposes of procuring meals while on shift at County-operated facilities
- Delicious catered lunches every noon, Monday through Friday, during educational sessions
- Free parking and mileage reimbursement for required away rotations
- In-hospital library and access to the Stanford Lane Library including all online journals, texts and learning resources (e.g. Up-To-Date, MD Consult)
- Categorical interns moving greater than 75 miles to SCVMC get up to $1500 of relocation expenses reimbursed
