SCVMC Celebrates National Nurse Practitioner Week

Please join us in celebrating National Nurse Practitioner Week at SCVMC, November 13 - 19, 2016. 

Here are some facts about our Nurse Practitioners:

• SCVMC employs 97 Nurse Practitioners (NPs) who provide primary and specialty care in both the hospital and clinics.  They work in programs, clinics, units, and departments throughout the healthcare delivery system.
• NPs are expert clinicians with advanced education and training. They typically have a master’s degree and many have doctoral degrees as well.
• NPs are licensed and provide a full range of services. They can prescribe and order medications and treatments, as well as order, perform and interpret diagnostic tests. NPs also diagnose and treat acute and chronic condition, and manage overall patient care for a large number of our patients. 
• There are more than 222,000 licensed NPs in the United States today, and the profession is rapidly growing. An estimated 20,000 new NPs completed their academic programs in 2014-2015.
