Faculty Development
In the Department of Medicine, we feel that learning shouldn’t stop with graduation from residency or fellowship. To that end, we have a robust faculty development program to promote both personal and professional growth throughout your career -- whether it be in teaching and mentorship, research and innovation, or leadership. We also take physician well-being very seriously and have a range of programs to supplement the excellent offerings of our hospital and medical staff. We know that by investing in our people, many of whom choose to spend their entire careers at SCVMC, we can continue to thrive as a dynamic and joyful place to care for patients.
Teaching and Mentorship
In addition to having an ACGME-accredited residency program, which trains 28 residents every year, we are a major teaching affiliate of Stanford University School of Medicine, allowing us to train specialists in almost every subspecialty of internal medicine. We also have an affiliation with Dartmouth’s Geisel School of Medicine that brings xxx students to complete their core clerkship at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center.
To help you grow as a teacher and mentor, we have a lecture series that covers topics ranging from teaching in challenging environments to give lectures to writing letters of recommendation. We also offer workshops and opportunities for peer-to-peer observation of teaching sessions, allowing us to learn from each other how to be the more effective and engaging as teachers.
Research and Innovation
Santa Clara Valley Medical Center has a long tradition of cutting-edge, patient-oriented research. The Department of Medicine fosters an environment of inquiry and academic rigor to ensure that we continue to contribute to medical knowledge well beyond the walls of our institution.
Physicians from the Department of Internal Medicine regularly present at national conferences and publish original research in peer-reviewed medical journals.
Leadership
To foster the next generation of leaders in medicine, we encourage all members of the department to serve on committees and get involved in charting the course for our future. Our department has a large footprint in many hospital and County-wide committees, and several of our physicians serve as leaders in their respective fields at a national level.
