When your baby requires urgent medical attention after birth, our neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) is committed to providing safe, effective high quality and compassionate care for your baby with the best nursing, medical and professional staff and employing innovative evidence-based interventions and technology.
In 1972 our NICU was the only one in San Jose providing specialized care for these fragile babies. We are currently a 40-bed regional center level IV NICU.
We are committed to keeping moms and babies together by minimizing separation of babies from families and expediting home discharge.
We strive to transition NICU graduates into our community by providing home visits to babies and families using pediatric nurse practitioners.
In the NICU, we like to stay up to date with the new technology to provide the best care possible for our little patients. A Giraffe bed is an isolette for our babies that provides heat, humidity and quiet environment for them to grow. The isolette is the baby's house for the first few weeks of the baby's life until they grow bigger and can maintain their own temperature. Over the years, generous donators purchase giraffage beds for us. We are so grateful for these donations. We did a video about our giraffe beds featuring one of our very own NICU graduate Dana Steinke, who was born at 23 and half weeks.
