Children’s Outdoor Bill of Rights
The Children’s Outdoor Bill of Rights was developed with input from the community and in collaboration with the County of Santa Clara Department of Public Health and Santa Clara County Parks. It was adopted by the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors in 2022 to promote the importance of spending time in nature in the community as well as with the hope of instituting county-wide systems-level changes that will ensure that all children in Santa Clara County have access to nature and the multitude of health benefits that it can provide.

Transit to Trails
The Children’s Outdoor Bill of Rights Initiative is committed to increasing access to parks and open spaces for Santa Clara County residents. In an effort to achieve this goal, we supported the County of Santa Clara Department of Public Health in their collaboration with the Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) and Santa Clara County Parks in the development of a map of parks and green spaces that are easily accessible by bus or light rail. Families can use this resource to take a short walk to VTA bus and light rail lines and explore parks and other outdoor spaces in Santa Clara County!

Advocating for Nature as a Public Health Priority
We work both in and outside of our community to support the movement to increase access to nature by speaking publicly and collaborating with other advocacy groups such as Healthy Parks, Healthy People, The Children and Nature Network, the UCSF Champion Provider Program, and The Bay Area Nutrition and Physical Activity Collaborative (BANPAC). We also work to help train the nature champions of tomorrow through the Stanford Children’s Hospital Pediatric Advocacy training program.
