NEUROSURGERY
Overview
Neurological surgery is the medical specialty concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of patients with injury to, or diseases of the brain, spine or peripheral nerves. A neurological surgeon (neurosurgeon) may provide either surgical or non-surgical care, depending on the nature of the injury or disease process.
The Division of Neurosurgery at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center (SCVMC) provides comprehensive neurological surgery services to our patients, both in the acute trauma as well as elective setting. All of our faculty are fellowship-trained experts in their respective sub-specialties within neurosurgery. In addition to providing clinical services to our patients, they also maintain active research and teaching responsibilities at Stanford and SCVMC.
All neurosurgeons at SCVMC are employed faculty in the Department of Neurosurgery at Stanford, and provide services at SCVMC thru a service agreement between the two institutions. SCVMC is a teaching affiliate of Stanford, and Stanford neurosurgery residents receive a portion of their 7- year neurosurgical training at SCVMC.
